Koh Kong’s International Airport to be Open in 2022

PHNOM PENH: Minister of Tourism Thong Khon met with representatives of the Chinese-owned Union Development Group – UDG -, in order to arrange an official date for the opening of Dara Sakor International Airport. They have announced the new airport will be ready for test in early 2022 and officially open in the middle of the same year.

Thong Khon has encouraged UDG to speed up the construction in order to start domestic and international flights as soon as possible, especially to connect tourists to Siem Reap International Airport, which will be reopened for foreign visitors in January next year.

The Union Development Group has invested US$3.5-billion to build the Dara Sakor International in 4.5 hectares of the Botom Sakor district, Koh Kong province. According to UDG, the new airport will be able to handle nearly 1 million passengers a year.

Currently there are three international airports under construction in Cambodia: the Dara Sakor International in Koh Kong, the new Phnom Penh international airport in Kandal and Takeo provinces, and the new Siem Reap international airport in Siem Reap province.
